Name: Michelle Dawes
Career: RN
Job location: Broward General Hospital, 4 North Tower
Doreste: What is your career today?
Dawes: RN.
Doreste: So, did is that what you always wanted to be?
Dawes: Yes.
Doreste: Do you think that there will be many job openings for an RN in the upcoming future?
Dawes: Of course, If youhaven’t yet heard, there is a great shortage of nurses through out the United States, hospitals now are searching for nurses with experience.
Doreste: Are there any ways to ensure success while in school for that profession?
Dawes: Well, the main things that you can do to prepare yourself for this career are to seek internships or even think about volunteering at a local hospital. You won’t get paid for it but it will surly help you advance and find out if that’s what you really want to do for the rest of your life.
Doreste: What obstacles did you face to get to where you are today?
Dawes: I had to learn to have patience, cultural diversity and people’s personalities. There are many different types of people and personalities that you are going to have to run into, you must be careful of what you say and how you act towards a patient. You must also always remember that you are a professional working in the work place.
Doreste: What are some of the requirements for your career?
Dawes: Learning Sciences, math and NSG care classes.
Doreste: How long did it take you to get to your career?
Dawes: Four years.
Doreste: Was the process easy or difficult?
Dawes: Difficult, study, study and more studying. I can remember the sleepless nights and sometimes I didn’t get sleep at all from just studying and making sure no one else takes my place.
Doreste: Is your career easier than what you thought it was going to be?
Dawes: A little but both at times, there are days that are very stressful but in this profession we have sick people coming in every day and we must tend to their needs.
Doreste: Do you enjoy what you do everyday?
Dawes: Yes, just seeing the patients faces light up every day you come into their rooms and you know that you are making a difference by helping others.
Doreste: If you had an opportunity to be in any other career field, what would it be and why?
Dawes: Teaching because of the reward of passing on knowledge to others.

Reflection
After spending those twenty four hours with out using any technology was very hard, I thought that I was litterally going nuts. I couldn't take it for the first three hours so I decided to do some early homework and catch up on some sleep. No cell phone, no television, no radio, i-pods, and the worst one , no FLAT IRON. I had to walk outside looking like a crazy person with my hair all out and I do have untameable and frizzy hair, so that was not too pleasant for me. I guess because our society is so involved with the day to day technologies that basically controlls and consumes our entire life, we forget that long ago many people continued to live with out many of the inventions that are invented today and in most third world countries still are to this day. That really gave me a sort of appreciation towards those twenty hours where I just forgot about having technology and managed to survive.

One Challenge
A seven year old wakes up at five in the morning, grabs her pale and sets off to her two to three mile journey on foot. She reaches a well and begins to fill her pale up with water, she then picks up the six pound pale, places it on her head to carry back to her village. Haiti has been one of the poorest countries in the world for over a century, every day a child dies from either malnutrition, a curable disease, or by a ransom killing, the Government is corrupted, there is not enough resources to get clean water to drink, and people are struggling to stay alive from day to day. My entire my family is one hundred percent Haitian and we have been fighting for thirteen years to get my older sister and her children to come to the U.S. The United States of America has given me and my family many opportunities that has led us through many tribulations, we wanted to also share that with my sister and her kids to help them obtain a better life. It's really hurtful to see my sister living in Haiti struggling to keep her and her family alive when America lets many Cubans in but doesn't do the same for the Haitians. I understand that there are many immigrants comming into the U.S. but there is a reason why. All they want is a better life for them and their children. We as citizens should acknowledge immigrants whom are despiratly trying to gain a better life, I don't know if the president will pass the wet foot dry foot law for the Haitians but hopefully they will think about their situation and will take that into consideration.

Online Video Games Articles
The first video game article was "Using Video Games as Bait to Hook Readers", this text basically presented an argument that was based on video games that would influence children to read more often in school. The aurthor of this article believes that since video games are fun and is usually already apart of a childs daily activities, why not incorporate it in school for reading. The games would be taking reading passages and turn them into a visual text where the child can be engaging in a fun activity and learning at the same time. On the other hand, some teachers diagree that video games will influence the child to pick up a book and read because many kids will skip the game and go directly to the game and play, which will not motivate the child to read the text. I think that yes, video games are fun and can promote learning, that's a great idea that video games should be brought into public schools to help children learn through a visual but to an extent. I don't think if these learning games are incorporated into the classrooms every day, that the children will learn too much, there should be a set interval that teachers can let the students use the video games because it may discourage them to pick up a boring book and sit there and read.
"Online video games seek immigrant detention reform", is another article I read which brings up a situation where there was a man, Mr. Bah who has a brain fracture and over stayed his visa was put into a detention holding center for immigrants in New Jersey. While in his holding cell, he asked to receive medical attention but received it too late and died thirteen hours later. A video game company created a video game that depicted what happen to Mr. Bach, where the player is the reporter that is undercover in the detention holding center. This is a serious game where it shows the players hat actually goes on in these detention centers that immigrants are sent to. This is definitly not my first time hearing something like that, the detention center employees treat the immigrants like animals and that is not right at all and i really don't blame that video gaming company for putting out a game like that because things like this has to stop. People need to know whats really going on in these detention centers so that way others can take a stand to help stop something like this from happening again. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2008/10/online_video_games_seek_immigr.html
